HISTORIC McSORLEY’S PALE ALE OLD MAN BARTENDER draft beer tap handle. McSorley’s Old Ale House. Manhattan, New York City, New York. They say they were originally established in 1854. (It may actually have been a few years later). The oldest Irish Pub in New York City. Enforcing century old motto’s like Be Good or Be Gone! ” and “We Were Here Before You Were Born. Prior to 1970 the motto was “Good Ale, Raw Onions and NO Ladies”. One of the last “Men’s Only” Club. Woman were prohibited until 1970 when McSorley’s was brought to court and forced to let women enter by law. Although woman were not allowed, the bar was owned by a woman from prohibition until 1974. They made the only Men’s room a unisex bathroom and no physical ladies room was installed until 16 years later when again they were forced to in 1986. The artifacts on the walls have been the same since 1910 including Houdini’s handcuffs still chained to the bar rail. I have been there several times. A portion of the movie’Rounders’ was filmed there. Famous patrons include; Abraham Lincoln, John Lennon, Teddy Roosevelt, Ulysses S. Grant and Dustin Hoffman. BEER DESCRIPTION: The beer was first brewed by Fidelio Brewing (Manhattan) in the early 1900’s up until WWI. Light and dark only. Then Rheingold (Brooklyn) got the pleasure to brew their suds for the next 30 years until they closed and gave Schmidt’s of Philadelphia the chance to brew it in the early 1970’s. (not New York water for the first time in over 100 years). McSorley’s Irish Pale Ale. Almost the same as it always was. ITEM DESCRIPTION: Tap is listed as used. It remains in excellent condition and shows very little wear. The bartender has finished cutting his fruit and stocking all the beers he will need for his shift. Now he is ready to take care of his customers and carries his lucky bar towel draped over his arm. Standing in front of the hostess stand that is made out of an old wooden keg. Loaded with different shades of green for the Irish in them all. Great looking collectible piece. Not often seen looking this nice. Stands just a hair over 12. Inches tall if he had any.
